You can preserve them and make tasty colorful sugars for baking cakes and muffins. Here are two recipes on how to make lilac sugars one based on cane or white sugar and one with icing sugar. Use the cane/white lilac sugar for cakes where it would be perfect to see the decorative small flowers and use the lilac icing sugar for frosting cakes and muffins. It is very easy and you save time and energy by drying both sugars in the oven at the same time.
All you need:
400 grams of white sugar or cane sugar
2-3 large lilac flowers
Take the delicate flowers of the lilac branch and mix them with the sugar. Spread the sugar out on a piece of wax paper on a baking sheet and dry in a 50-80 degrees oven for 30-45 minutes or until it is completely dry. The sugar you can keep for months in an airtight container.
Lilac Icing sugar
All you need:
3 cups of icing sugar
2-3 lilac flowers depends on how purple you want the color, you can of course also use the white lilacs.
Blend icing sugar with lilac flowers in a blender or food processor. Spread the powdered mix on a piece of wax paper on a baking sheet and dry in a 50-80 degrees oven for 30-45 minutes or until it is completely dry. Let it cool and put it in an airtight container.
